Budget passed with amendments TNA votes for SLFP absent

The 2019 Budget was passed in Parliament with amendments today with 119 MPs voting for and 74 against it.The Tamil National Alliance and the Ceylon Worker’s Congress voted for the budget with the United National Party. The Joint Opposition and the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna voted against it. Leader of the House Lakshman Kiriella said that the vote showed the confidence Parliament has on the Government.The budget, which is usually presented in November, was delayed as a result of a political coup last October following a deep first between President Maithripala Sirisena and Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe. (Colombo Gazette) The budget was presented to Parliament last month and after one month of debate it was passed today.The Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna had attempted to seek support to defeat the budget but those attempts failed. Sri Lanka Freedom Party members were absent during the vote.

Kentucky health officials urge flu vaccinations

Health Commissioner Angela Dearinger says vaccination is the best way to prevent the virus, which can be debilitating and sometimes deadly. Symptoms include fever, cough, sore throat, sneezing and body aches.Although vaccination is recommended for everyone 6 months old and over, officials say populations at higher risk for complications include young children, older adults and pregnant women.Last year, Kentucky reported 194 flu-related deaths, two of which were children.
