Boakai in the 2017 general and presidential elections. They made their pledge recently in Caldwell at a town hall meeting, where they gathered to discuss economic and other national issues that affect their businesses.“We the businesswomen in Caldwell assure Veep Boakai of our support for the 2017 presidential race. You can count on us,” they indicated.Spokesperson Madam Haja Gray believes that “if the VP is elected as President, he will help them become self-sufficient, productive and efficient in catering to their families.”Madam Gray sells slippers, shoes and dry goods in Caldwell Market.According to her, there are lots of things the UP government has done for them, especially at the grassroots level in the business sector and as such, citizens of the country must elect VP Boakai to continue the legacy of President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf.Madam Gray said: “We are willing to support him to the fullest.”After pledging their support, Madam Gray vowed that they are ready when given the necessary support to help tackle unemployment as well as stabilize the economy. She further stated that the businesswomen can turn the country’s economic turmoil around if given the needed push from government which she said would enable them to contribute their quota to stabilize the country’s currency.“We are not against foreign competition, but we want support to be able to compete with foreign businesses,” she added. Also speaking, head of Thumbs-Up Women Business Association, Ruth Parker, urged the businesswomen to make more efforts to grow their businesses.Parker noted that developing a strong, coherent, transparent and supportive policy on entrepreneurship needs a comprehensive consultative exercise on the topic.“The opportunity for our businesses to succeed and grow supports our future potential for increased employment, growth and prosperity,” she said.Share this:Click to share on Twitter (Opens in new window)Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window)last_img read more
