Isiah Thomas To Join NBA TV As An Analyst

Isiah Thomas’ efforts as an NBA head coach and general manager were nowhere near as outstanding as his Hall of Fame career as a point guard for the Detroit Lions. He was not that good as a college basketball coach, either — or owner of the CBA.Maybe Thomas’ ideal role is in as an analyst. He will join NBA TV in the studio starting Friday  during the network’s AutoTrader.com Pre-Game Show at 7 p.m.Thomas, who served years ago as an in-game analyst for NBC, will make several appearances each month on the network and will also be a regular contributor to NBA.com.It will be interesting to see if he is on set with Magic Johnson, who works for TNT but on occasion will be an NBA TV guest. Johnson and Thomas were best friends, so much so that they actually kissed before NBA Finals games in the late 1980s when the Pistons faced Magic’s Los Angeles Lakers. However, the thick-as-thieves-relationship fell off in subsequent years for many rumored but unconfirmed reasons.Thomas is a 12-time NBA All-Star and was named one of the 50 greatest players in NBA history in 1996. He was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 2000.He became the target of much fury in 1987 when he repeated teammate Dennis Rodman’s comment that Larry Bird, the NBA’s MVP at the time, ”would be just another good guy” if he were not white. The backlash was so sever that Thomas flew to Los Angeles and appeared alongside Bird during a press conference. He explained then: ‘My mistake was in joking in a manner and with someone who did not fully understand that I was joking,” Thomas said. ”I’m really hurting about this.”At the same time, Thomas can be thoughtful, insightful and pensive. If he unleashes all his knowledge, he can become a strong addition to the network. He had a decent run as coach of the Indiana Pacers and a rally bad stint as coach and general manager of the New York Knicks. His latest basketball job was at tiny Florida International, where he did not make a significant mark.Recently, Thomas, who won the NBA’s J. Walter Kennedy Citizenship Award in ’87, spoke out at a rally in his hometown of Chicago to end the extreme violence that has marred the city.Thomas played 13 seasons in the NBA, all as a member of the  Pistons. He led the franchise to back-to-back world championships in 1989-90 and earned NBA Finals MVP in 1990.Thomas is chairman and CEO of Isiah International, a holding company with interests in a diversified portfolio of companies with strong market positions and growth potential. read more

Alan Smith on Mislintats departure

first_imgThere is no point in Arsenal retaining the services of Sven Mislintat if the club is unwilling to spend money, according to the club’s legend Alan Smith.Mislintat, 46, was appointed as Arsenal’s head of recruitment in November 2017 but rumours are rife he is set for an exit after masterminding some of the club’s major deals including Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang for £56million in January 2018.The club are said to be looking to appoint a technical director, and former striker Smith believes it’s the right call considering the club is not keen on any buys.“The Ramsey situation is a funny one,” he told Friday’s Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast on TalkSport and cited on Football London.Jadon SanchoMerson believes Arsenal should sign Sancho Manuel R. Medina – September 14, 2019 Borussia Dortmund winger Jadon Sancho might be the perfect player to play for the Gunners, according to former England international Paul Merson.“He’s such a good player and to see him move to Juventus, where I’m sure he’ll do well, it’s a bit galling for Arsenal fans – especially given the situation in midfield.“We’ve got Matteo Guendouzi, Lucas Torreira, and Granit Xhaka – they’ll do a shift but they’re not going to create too many chances. It’s certainly an area Arsenal are lacking in.“I think all Arsenal fans were hoping this would come to an end,” added Smith, hinting at his frustration at another quality player be allowed to leave the club.“They’ve got a new backroom team in place with Raul Sanllehi and Sven Mislintat, who seems to be leaving. He’s head of recruitment but there’s not much point him being there if they can’t recruit because they’ve got no money.”last_img read more

But the company hasn’t been able to keep a tight lid on the phone’s features and specs until the big reveal and now another leak is giving away the pricing of the premium P30-series.Huawei P30 and P30 Pro prices were leaked by German blog WinFuture, which suggests the phones might be one of the most expensive phones today. According to the report, Huawei P30 Pro’s top variant with 8GB RAM and 256GB storage will cost €1,099 ($1,247) in Europe, while a 128GB variant will be priced at €999 ($1,134).Huawei P30 Pro’s leaked pricing suggests it’ll be more expensive than Samsung Galaxy S10, which starts at $999. The latest flagship by Huawei will be on the same range as Samsung Galaxy S10+, which starts at €1,000 for the baseline model in Europe and $1,000 in the U.S. Prices of Galaxy S10+ go as high as €1,600 for 12GB+1GB Ceramic variant, which is way above P30 Pro’s range.Huawei is also going to launch the P30 at its upcoming event, and as one can guess, this will be the cheaper variant. How cheap you might ask? According to the latest leak, Huawei P30 will be priced at €749 ($850), which will be positioned against Samsung’s cheapest 2019 flagship, the Galaxy S10e. Huawei P30 Pro (L) and P30 leaked rendersWinFutureIn addition to the two flagships, Huawei is also expected to launch a P30 Lite next week, which will be priced just at €369 ($419), targeting budget-friendly shoppers. The rear camera setup on the P30 Pro will be made up of 40MP f/1.8 primary sensor, 16MP f/2.2 secondary wide-angle lens, an 8MP f/2.4 telephoto sensor and a ToF lens. On the front, a 32MP sensor will be responsible for selfies. The only difference in the P30 camera will be the missing ToF sensor. Volunteers Begin 2017 Houston Area Homeless Count

first_imgIt’s a three-day process to find out how many people are homeless, beginning with an overnight count of those using shelters. Marilyn Brown with the Coalition for the Homeless says volunteers then take the survey to the streets Tuesday through Thursday. “We do know what we call ‘hot spots,’ and we know that because of staff at the various agencies that actually provide outreach all year long.” Brown says Houston leads the nation in solving homelessness. There were 3,626 homeless individuals on a given night in 2016 — a 21 percent reduction from the previous year. The Houston area is receiving $34 million from HUD to help end homelessness. “The survey questions are all federally-mandated questions, but we do find a lot about their needs. And those who are eligible for housing — chronically homeless individuals, the ones with a disability that have been unsheltered for over a year, youth and families with children — we will do an automatic housing assessment right there on the spot.”   Some 200 surveyors and volunteers are taking part in the count, which covers Harris, Fort Bend, and Montgomery Counties. STAR SPECIALS Vote Leave The OddsOn Favourite To Be Official Brexit Campaign

first_imgStar Sports has released betting odds on which of the two rival Brexit movements will be the official Eurosceptic campaign, and makes ‘Vote Leave’ the odds-on favourite at 1/3 to be endorsed by the Electoral Commission.Star Sports spokesman Jamie Loughead comments “The Brexit two campaigns are both fighting to get the UK out of the EU, but have very different approaches to win the referendum. Farage’s GO Campaign seems largely driven by immigration and security concerns, whereas Douglas Carswell’s Vote Leave campaign has a much broader outlook focusing on issues like sovereignty, the economy and Brussels bureaucracy.”He continued “I’ve spoken to a number of high profile Eurosceptics in Westminster and the feeling is that only Vote Leave can be the official ‘out’ campaign, so we make that our 1/3 odds-on favourite. Although Farage fans may wish to take our generous odds of 9/4 that his GO campaign can get Electoral Commission backing!”Which will be the official Brexit Referendum Campaign chosen by the Electoral Commission?Vote Leave 1/3 Grassroots Out (GO) 9/4(Source: Electoral Commission.
