With Day 1 of Big 12 Media Days in the books, we turn our attention to Oklahoma State’s appearance on the second day. Mike Gundy will close out the festivities with his press conference (hopefully a metaphor for the season, yes?) and we will hear from Chad Whitener, Zach Sinor, James Washington and Mason Rudolph as well. Here are a few questions we have for them entering the second day of fun in Frisco.1. How do you run a high-level organization on a start-up budget?Wins in the last eight years: Oklahoma State (77-27) | Oklahoma (81-24)Revenue last year: Oklahoma State ($93.7M) | Oklahoma ($150.4M)How is this possible, and how is Mike Gundy (of all people!) so good at it?AdChoices广告2. Where can Mason Rudolph most improve? The soon-to-be first rounder is the complete package, but I’m curious about where he (and his coach) thinks he has the most room to improve. I have a hunch about what the answer will be, but I’m still intrigued by the question.3. Has Gundy accidentally stumbled onto the cutting edge?Think about all the trends Gundy has been out in front of. From not hitting in practice to satellite camps to uniforms to leveraging social media to creating an app to contorting an offense to fit his personnel to hiring Dana Holgorsen. Gundy, for as conservative as he’s been in play-calling, has been stunningly liberal elsewhere. I’m curious if he had a vision for all of this or if he just sort of fell backwards into it.4. How does Bob Stoops’ leaving affect the way Gundy sees the Big 12?We probably won’t get a straight answer for this one, but I’d still like to ask it. An offshoot of this one would be what he would tell the 33-year-old Lincoln Riley embarking on the toughest journey of his professional life.5. Why does nobody seem concerned about the defense?OSU is operating with corners who have never started at OSU, a safety who has never played the position and a host of new players up front on the defensive line. And yet everyone seems pretty … unaffected by it all. What do they know that the rest of us don’t?last_img read more

Breaking Down Mike Gundy’s 104 Wins

Because of our subscribers, we’ve been able to improve our work and provide the best OSU news and community anywhere online. Help us keep that up. One-hundred and four wins. An astonishing number. That’s 42 more than Pat Jones who was the previous record holder in Oklahoma State coaching history. Gundy is more than a full Jimmy Johnson (30-25-2) ahead of Jones, and there is no sign of slowing down any time soon. There have been blowouts (Savannah) and nail-biters (all the Kansas State games). There have been ugly, slogging affairs (Montana State). There have been barn-burning shootouts (every Tech game). There have been unranked road wins and highly-ranked home losses. When you’ve coached 154 games in your career there will be a little bit of everything. So let’s look at them. How good is Gundy on the road against the spread? What about at home when getting 3+ turnovers? What about in bowl games? We did this exercise last year before Gundy topped the century mark, and it was a lot of fun so I thought we should bring it back this season before the games get cranking. A look at Gundy’s 104 wins in a variety of ways. Most data came from Team Rankings or CFB Reference. Also, if you have requests, send them and we can try to figure them out for a follow-up post.AdChoices广告OverallHome: 60-19 (80%)Road: 34-25 (58%)Neutral: 10-6 (63%)Conference: 63-39 (62%)Non-Conference: 41-11 (79%)Bowls: 7-4 (64%)Homecoming: 8-4 (66%)As a FavoriteOverall: 80-12 (87%)Home: 48-6 (89%)Road: 25-5 (83%)As an UnderdogOverall: 17-38 (31%)Home: 6-13 (32%)Road: 9-20 (31%)Coming off a …Loss: 27-18 (60%)Win: 65-30 (68%)Bye: 17-13 (57%)Against the SpreadAs home favorite: 34-20 (63%)As road favorite: 17-11-2 (61%)As home dog: 8-10-1 (44%)As road dog: 13-16 (45%)When scoring …19 or less: 1-13 (7%)20 or more: 103-37 (74%)30 or more: 91-18 (83%)40 or more: 57-4 (93%)50 or more: 31-0 (100%)60 or more: 11-0 (100%)When holding teams to …20 or less: 54-0 (100%)30 or less: 78-9 (90%)40 or less: 100-24 (81%)50 or less: 103-43 (71%)60 or less: 104-48 (68%)When getting __ turnovers0: 6-11 (35%)1 or more: 98-39 (72%)2 or more: 71-22 (76%)3 or more: 49-6 (89%)4 or more: 20-1 (95%)5 or more: 9-1 (90%)When rushing for __ yards per carry2.9 or less: 10-11 (48%)3 or more: 94-38 (71%4 or more: 68-25 (73%)5 or more: 43-17 (72%)6 or more: 24-5 (83%)7 or more: 13-0 (100%)When throwing __ passes in a game19 or fewer: 5-0 (100%)20 or more: 99-50 (66%)30 or more: 63-28 (69%)40 or more: 27-17 (61%)50 or more: 4-7 (36%)RankingsAs top 10 team: 16-8 (66%)Against top 10 teams: 6-15 (29%)Against top 25 teams: 20-30 (40%)Against top 25 teams at home: 12-14 (46%)Against top 25 teams on the road/neutral: 8-16 (33%)last_img read more

‘Ronaldo always appears in the big moments’

I think he can become influential again. In the big moments he is there, he is there for the team and I expect him to be back at this level, for sure.”Neymar is an injury doubt for the March 6 return match after the Brazilian sustained an injury to his right ankle during a Ligue 1 win over PSG’s rivals Marseille on Sunday, although coach Unai Emery is optimistic the world’s most expensive player will be passed fit.Cristiano Ronaldo had the chance to score his 50th career hat-trick and 300th Liga goal… but he let Karim Benzema take the penalty to complete Real Madrid’s 4-0 win against Alavés.Classy #UCL pic.twitter.com/GyhtXpsfq7— UEFA Champions League (@ChampionsLeague) February 24, 2018Regardless of whether Neymar is able to play, former Chelsea, Tottenham and Zenit coach Villas-Boas thinks the pace of Madrid on the break will make it hard for PSG to overturn a two-goal deficit.”The difficult thing is to live with the strength of Real Madrid in the counter-attack, which is where they can create a lot of damage,” Villas-Boas told Omnisport.”Paris Saint-Germain will try to look for goals, on the counter is the strongest part of Real Madrid so it’s really a tricky one. If it was only a one-goal advantage it would be a bit easier but with two goals it can be quite tricky.”The pressure that Real Madrid would have to withstand if Paris Saint-Germain score can be quite high. Let’s see what happens but Real Madrid look very, very strong on the counter-attack so they can create damage as well.”The Best FIFA Men’s Player 2016@CRISTIANO RONALDO CONGRATULATIONS!!! #TheBest #HalaMadrid pic.twitter.com/bycEsmWFDg— Real Madrid C.F. For sportsmen it’s important to give them a hand so I’ve been an ambassador since 2011, with great honour,” Villas-Boas said. “I can’t praise enough the work they do in social projects, particularly because they are through sports. With sports you learn courage, responsibility, you become healthy and for kids involved in crime, gang violence and social exclusion, it’s important to bring them in and teach them values.”I value a lot the work that they do, hopefully with my contribution we can take their name higher and with the media exposure, we need a lot of you guys so their name can go higher and higher.”Yeah, just having fun with the kids. The kids were shivering, you don’t expect snow here. Emery on borrowed time after another abysmal Arsenal display Diving, tactical fouls & the emerging war of words between Guardiola & Klopp Speaking at a pre-match news conference, PSG head coach Unai Emery said: ” Kylian Mbappe trained normally with the squad yesterday. The only player, apart from Neymar, who did not, was Javier Pastore.”Normally, all players will be ready for tomorrow’s match against Madrid, except Neymar.”This near-clean bill of health means Thiago Motta and Lassana Diarra offer more experienced options in the holding midfield role, where Argentine youngster Giovani Lo Celso struggled at times during the defeat at the Santiago Bernabeu.Thiago Silva, Marquinhos and Presnel Kimpembe will also contest the two centre-back slots once more after Emery controversially left club captain Silva on the bench in Madrid.”Both Lassana Diarra and Thiago Motta possess the experience for this sort of big European match,” he said.”All three central defenders are ready to play against Real Madrid. We will see after the final training session.”The 11 starters and the substitutes will all be important against Real. Everybody will need to chip in.”Although their late collapse in the Spanish capital makes PSG the underdogs, a 4-0 win over Barcelona at this stage on home turf last season gives cause for optimism and Emery called on the Parc des Princes faithful to greet their illustrious opponents with a cacophony of noise.”It is a very important moment of the season, a unique moment for all the PSG supporters and all of France. The Champions League is a major objective for the club,” he added.”This match is different. Above all, it is in Paris. We will be 12 with the support of the fans.”We need to stay united on the inside and also show that from the outside. We want unity with the PSG fans.”It is the first time that we have played an important Champions League return leg at the Parc des Princes. This is something different.”last_img read more

Wissam Ben Yedder came off the bench to score the decisive goals as Sevilla moved into the quarter-finals of the Champions League with a stunning 2-1 away win at Manchester United. At a restless Old Trafford, United never got out of first gear and Sevilla, having dominated the opening leg at home without finding a way to beat David de Gea in a goalless draw, deservedly progressed. When Ben Yedder came off the bench with less than 20 minutes to play, the game was finely balanced with both sides aware the first goal would be decisive. Is the BBC dead at Real Madrid?

first_imgPrimera División Is the BBC dead? Benzema & Bale now mere supporting actors on Real’s Ronaldo show Ben Hayward Last updated 1 year ago 17:15 17/3/2018 FacebookTwitterRedditcopy Comments(8) Real Madrid Ronaldo Bale Benzema Getty Primera División Cristiano Ronaldo Gareth Bale Karim Benzema Real Madrid v Girona Real Madrid Girona Opinion Only one member of Los Blancos’ famous forward line is fully firing right now and with changes likely in the summer, the trident could soon be history Zinedine Zidane was crystal clear. When he took over from Rafa Benitez as Real Madrid coach in January 2016, the Frenchman would not reveal his preferred players for the starting line-up, but he was happy to announce one thing. “The idea is to play with the three in attack,” he said. Those three were Gareth Bale, Karim Benzema and Cristiano Ronaldo. Or as they are more commonly referred to by fans, the media and pundits in Spain, the BBC (taking, of course, one letter from each name: Bale, Benzema, Cristiano). These days, however, the trident is not what it was. Injury problems for Bale in particular meant the three rarely featured together last season and in January of this year, they all appeared on the pitch in unison for the first time in 273 days. Article continues below Editors’ Picks Williams case shows Solskjaer isn’t holding Man Utd’s youngsters back – he’s protecting them Goalkeeper crisis! Walker to the rescue but City sweating on Ederson injury ahead of Liverpool clash Out of his depth! Emery on borrowed time after another abysmal Arsenal display Diving, tactical fouls & the emerging war of words between Guardiola & Klopp In total, they had not featured in the same side for 43 consecutive games. And even in last season’s Champions League final when Bale came on as subsitute, it was in place of Benzema. The Welsh winger and the French forward have suffered from injuries and a dip in form again in the current campaign and have both been booed by fans at the Santiago Bernabeu. Meanwhile, Spanish sports paper AS has taken to writing bbC (and not BBC), with the initial of only Cristiano considered worthy of a capital letter. The first match they all started together this term was a 4-1 win away to Valencia, a result that brought plenty of optimism. However, they have only started four fixtures since: a 2-2 draw at Levante, a 4-0 win at home to Alaves, a 3-1 success against Getafe and last weekend’s 2-1 victory at Eibar. The Alaves game was the highlight as the three scored, doing so all together in the same match for the first time since April 2016 as Ronaldo handed the ball to Benzema for the Frenchman to convert a last-minute penalty.Earlier, Ronaldo had netted twice and Bale had also hit the target, with Benzema assisting twice before his late strike. It was a reminder of just how effective the three can be when all are on song.BBC starts graphicHowever, it is not really a trident any more because Zidane plays 4-4-2 and even against Alaves, Bale was deployed as a left winger in a four-man midfield, with Benzema and Ronaldo up front. And in the two Champions league last-16 clashes against Paris Saint-Germain recently, Bale was left on the bench both times, while Benzema often seems to get the nod because he is the club’s only senior centre-forward.”It’s true that Benzema isn’t scoring a lot, but he gives us other things,” Zidane said last week. “I’m positive and I believe the goals will come. And with Gareth there is nothing – he is a fundamental player for us.”However, Madrid will be targeting a new striker in the summer, with Bayern Munich’s Robert Lewandowski one possibility, while Neymar and Eden Hazard are also likely to be transfer targets.None of that is much concern to Ronaldo, who is back to his best with 14 goals already this year. But Benzema and Bale are merely supporting actors for the Portuguese these days – and the BBC could soon be a thing of the past at Real Madrid.last_img read more

Even Carlos Vela and the Dos Santos brothers will be on the wrong side of 30 for the tournament set to take place in Qatar. Some of those guys may give it a go, though, and Mexico would benefit from their veteran leadership. Guardado in particular seems intent on staying in Europe for another two years. He could match Marquez with a fifth World Cup should he see action in 2022. With 150 caps to his name already, El Tri’s all-time cap leader Claudio Suarez’s 177 is well within range should Guardado stay healthy.Still, it’s difficult to see Chicharito and Moreno being in the form needed to be part of the next World Cup squad – and if Guardado is there it will likely be in a substitute role. Miguel Layun is a different case as well. His versatility makes him a great option for national team coaches, though whether he can keep his form up for another four years when he will be 34 is hardly a given.Giovani dos Santos, Jonathan dos Santos and Vela also seem to be candidates to call time on their international careers, though the fact that they are playing in MLS where they can generally fly direct to match locations rather than having to fly across the Atlantic Ocean and make stopovers means they could stick around longer than expected.Mexico players who should be called upThere were no big omissions from Juan Carlos Osorio when he named his roster. Rodolfo Pizarro was one of the most notable names. He has moved on to Monterrey and should be entering his prime when 2022 rolls around. Expect the former Chivas attacker to figure into the picture in the future. Diego Lainez MexicoIt’s time for the Diego Lainez era to get started, as well. The 18-year-old turned heads in the Toulon Tournament, helping Mexico to a second-place finish in the prestigious youth event. While Club America wants to hold on to the phenom, a European move could be on the horizon. Lainez on the right and Lozano on the left will be a technically sound pairing that terrifies fullbacks for years to come. While Guillermo Ochoa could still be Mexico’s No. 1 in four years, it’s also time to find the next great Mexican goalkeeper. No young player has impressed more than Gibran Lajud. The 24-year-old already is the regular starter for Club Tijuana. He overcame some early growing pains to become a serious prospect and even earned a call-up from Osorio for the January friendly against Bosnia and Herzegovina. That friendly marked the Mexico debut of Jonathan Gonzalez, and the young Rayados midfielder is an excellent option in the middle of the field. Omar Govea also shows potential there but needs to sort out his club situation and continue to improve to make the roster. How will Mexico line up in the 2022 World Cup?GFX Mex QatarThere are a few issues about this team. For one, it doesn’t have Diego Reyes in it. He and Cesar Montes are the center backs left out, though both should be part of Mexico’s future and will be the right age to shine in 2022. Yet, Nestor Araujo and Carlos Salcedo, if he returns to the national team, could form such an excellent partnership in the middle that it may be worth sacrificing them or, in Reyes’ case, putting him in a different position. The fullbacks remain Jesus Gallardo and Edson Alvarez, who now have the experience of playing the position at the World Cup. It’s possible neither is playing there for their club teams, but the next manager would be wise to continue to give them minutes in those roles.Up top, Hirving Lozano is the first name on the team sheet. He didn’t look at all out of place in his debut World Cup, scoring a goal against Germany, adding an assist against South Korea and troubling the Brazilian defense. Another potential issue is central forward. Raul Jimenez will be 31, though it’s not clear if he’ll still be with Wolves. Young Eduardo Aguirre looks to be an excellent forward, but he’s even shorter than Chicharito. Playing as a center forward may not suit the quick Santos Laguna man, though we’ll see how he develops in the next few years. All in all, it looks like a talented team – but more players will emerge. After Brazil, who could’ve seen Lozano’s breakout seasons or Gallardo’s successful conversion to left back? Also, don’t expect the older generation to go easily. While it may be time for Chicharito, Miguel Layun and Guardado to take on different roles, they wear their love for Mexico on their sleeves and won’t give up their places without a fight.last_img read more

Genius Smith can be dismissed reveals Ponting

first_imgManchester: Hailing him as a genius, former Australia captain and batting great Ricky Ponting on Friday said Steve Smith can only be dismissed if he is bowled around the corridor of uncertainty, outside the off stump. On Thursday, Smith — who had to miss the third Ashes Test due to concussion — played an incredible knock of 211 to help Australia post a mammoth first inning total of 497/8 and take the driver’s seat at the Old Trafford. Smith re-wrote the history books with his 26th Test century and third Ashes double hundred as he batted for 513 minutes, and hit 24 fours and two sixes. It’s his application to what he does. He just doesn’t make any mistakes. His concentration levels are obviously unbelievably good,” said the World Cup winning skipper. Asked how he can be dismissed, Ponting said: “He’s only been out nine times lbw in his last 99 innings, so you know if you’re bowling straight you’re not going to get him out,” he said. He doesn’t miss it on the inside.” World’s No. 1 batsman Smith is being compared to legendary countryman Sir Donald Bradman, regarded as the best batsman to have played the game. “Even what Smithy is doing now is remarkable, to think how good Bradman must have been to be a third again better than what Steve Smith’s doing at the moment is ridiculous,” Ponting said.last_img read more

Alberta spending more but saving more thirdquarter fiscal update

first_imgEDMONTON – New numbers show Alberta’s economy continues to dig itself out of the deep hole caused by crashing oil prices as Premier Rachel Notley’s government both spends and saves more.Finance Minister Joe Ceci says the province is on track for a $9.1-billion deficit when the budget year ends March 31. That’s $1.4 billion lower than the deficit expected when Ceci tabled this year’s budget last spring.Ceci notes forecasts also point to an economic rebound as production goes up and unemployment falls.“Nearly 90,000 full-time jobs were created over the last year and Alberta’s GDP growth led the country at 4.5 per cent in 2017,” Ceci said in a statement Wednesday after releasing the third-quarter update to the 2017-18 budget.“We will continue to work hard to ensure this recovery reaches all Albertans.”The province is expected to take in an extra $1.9 billion this year for a total of $46.9 billion in revenue — mainly due to higher than expected oil revenue and returns on investments.Spending is also rising to $55.9 billion — about $1 billion more than projected at budget — to cover increases in services for children, people with disabilities, and for employment and income supports. The debt is going to hit almost $42 billion this year. Debt payments will be $1.4 billion.Alberta anticipates $883 million from crude oil royalties, almost double what had been expected, although revenue from bitumen royalties will be $2.4 billion — about $188 million less than projected.Oil revenues were hampered this year by the price discount Alberta’s blended bitumen sells at compared with the benchmark North American West Texas Intermediate price. The discount is tied mainly to pipeline bottlenecks that drive up the price of getting Alberta’s heavy oil to U.S. refineries and ports. The NDP has been running high deficits throughout its term in government. It says slashing budgets and jobs would only worsen the situation and kill an economic recovery. The province has been saving money by negotiating contracts with zero pay increases for teachers and nurses and other health professionals. It has also axed redundant agencies and committees and consolidated other programs and services.Alberta has been hit with multiple credit downgrades, however, which have increased the cost of borrowing. Ceci has promised to present a more detailed plan to get the budget back in balance by 2023.The update says investment in the province, apart from the conventional energy sector, is still lagging, especially in construction.Total real business investment is forecast to fall 1.9 per cent this year after a one per cent increase in 2017.Drew Barnes, finance critic for the Opposition United Conservatives, said the NDP’s fiscal policies and red tape in areas such as revised labour standards are to blame.“Capital is mobile,” said Barnes. “If you have your option to put your investment dollars in a jurisdiction with a more favourable regulatory burden (and) a likelihood of getting a higher return, a lot of businesses are going to do it.”New Alberta Party Leader Stephen Mandel said the extra $1 billion in spending has laudable aims, but he suggested it’s poor fiscal management to spend and fund on the fly.“I find it quite amazing that each time we have an update it’s like a new budget,” said Mandel.“(And) in a government that focuses on low carbon attitude, low carbon vision — every time we get more revenue from the energy industry, they find a way to spend it.”The house resumes sitting March 8. Ceci is to bring in the 2018-19 budget on March 22.last_img read more

Over 500 mn years old fossil trove unearthed in China

first_imgBeijing: Scientists in China have discovered a “stunning” trove of well-preserved thousands of fossils estimated to be about 518 million years old on a river bank in the country’s central Hubei province. The fossils are particularly unusual because the soft body tissue of many creatures, including their skin, eyes, and internal organs, have been “exquisitely” well preserved. Palaeontologists have called the findings “mind-blowing” – especially because more than half the fossils are previously undiscovered species, the BBC reported. Also Read – Saudi Crown Prince ‘snubbed’ Pak PM, recalled jet from USThe fossils, known as the Qingjiang biota, were collected near Danshui river in Hubei province. More than 20,000 specimens were collected, and a total of 4,351 have been analysed so far, including worms, jellyfish, sea anemones and algae. They will become a “very important source in the study of the early origins of creatures”, one of the fieldwork leaders, Prof Xingliang Zhang from China’s Northwest University, told the BBC. The discovery is particularly remarkable because “the majority of creatures are soft-bodied organisms like jellyfish and worms that normally stand no chance of becoming fossilised”, Prof Robert Gaines, a geologist who also took part in the study, said. Also Read – Record number of 35 candidates in fray for SL Presidential pollsThe majority of fossils tend to be of hard-bodied animals, as harder substances, like bones, are less likely to rot and decompose. The Qingjiang biota must have been “rapidly buried in sediment” due to a storm, in order for soft tissues to be so well preserved, Prof Zhang said. Scientists are especially excited by the jellyfish and sea anemone fossils, which Prof Gaines described as “unlike anything I have ever seen. Their sheer abundance and their diversity of forms is stunning.” Meanwhile, palaeontologist Allison Daley, who was not part of the study but wrote an accompanying analysis in Science, told BBC’s Science in Action programme the find was one of the most significant in the last 100 years. “It blew my mind – as a palaeontologist I never thought I’d get to witness the discovery of such an incredible site. For the first time we’re seeing preservation of jellyfish – [when] you think of jellyfish today, they’re so soft-bodied, so delicate, but they’re preserved unbelievably well at this site.” The research team are now documenting the remaining specimens, and conducting more drilling in the region to find out more about the ancient local ecosystem, and the fossilisation process. Prof Zhang said he looks forward to studying “all these new species – I’m always excited when we get something new”. The fossils are from the Cambrian period, which began 541 million years ago and saw a rapid increase in animal diversity on Earth, the report said. Prof Gaines hopes his work will also strike a chord with modern readers. “Biotic diversity today is something that we take for granted, even though there are indications that extinction rates are sharply increasing. “Yet most of the major animal lineages were established in a singular event in the history of life, the Cambrian explosion, the likes of which have never been seen before or after. It also reminds us of our deep kinship to all living animals,” he said.last_img read more

Israeli settlers storm Jerusalems Aqsa Mosque again

first_imgJERUSALEM – Scores of Israeli settlers and intelligence agents on Wednesday stormed the Aqsa Mosque compound in the city of Al-Quds (East Jerusalem), in the latest violation of Islam’s thirst holiest site.“The Aqsa Mosque is under violent attack led by extremist [Jewish] settlers backed by Israeli police,” Sheikh Azzam al-Khatib, director of Islamic Religious Endowments in Jerusalem, told Anadolu Agency.“Al-Aqsa is in serious danger,” he said. “The Islamic world should act in order to defend the holy mosque.” Al-Aqsa compound guard Abdel-Jabar Abu Nejm said that some 90 Israeli intelligence agents had stormed the site.“Thirty-eight of them entered the Alkibali and Marwani mosques, in addition to the Dome of the Rock,” Abu Nejm told AA.“In addition to the intelligence agents, 36 Jewish extremist desecrated the Al-Aqsa compound” he said.Abu Nejm said dozens of Arab Jerusalemites and school students had begun shouting “Allahu Akbar” (“God is great”) as the setters entered the compound. In recent weeks, groups of Jewish settlers – often accompanied by Israeli security forces – have repeatedly entered the Aqsa Mosque complex. The frequent violations anger Palestinian Muslims and occasionally lead to violent clashes in the mosque compound.Wednesday’s violation took place days after the Knesset (Israel’s parliament) debated proposed legislation that would “divide” the Al-Aqsa site between Muslims and Jews.Jews refer to Al-Aqsa as the “Temple Mount,” claiming the area was the site of two prominent Jewish temples in ancient times.last_img read more

Strong Warning from Elections office forces Candidate to cancel Back to School

first_img Attorney calls on UWI to honor TCI leaders Recommended for you Related Items:Elections office warns against ‘treating’, Fulford blames PDM leader for rules, mark fulford Facebook Twitter Google+LinkedInPinterestWhatsApp Facebook Twitter Google+LinkedInPinterestWhatsAppPDM Leader blamed for the rule says Fulford.Providenciales, TCI, September 1, 2016 – There was warning from the Elections Office following the announcement that one of the candidates was planning a Back to School jamboree to give away books and other school supplies to children; North Caicos candidate for the Progressive national Party, Mark Fulford this morning told Magnetic Media that he is furious about having to cancel his event, which was planned for Saturday, explaining in a media statement that he reported his intentions and there was no warning to him at the time that the event would be considered – Treating.Treating says the Elections Supervisor, Dudley Lewis is against the Elections Ordinance rules and from section 70 he quotes that , “Every person who corruptly, by himself or by any other person, either before, during or after an election, directly or indirectly, gives or provides or pays, wholly or in part, the expenses of giving or providing any food, drink, entertainment, or provision to or for any person for the purpose of corruptly influencing that person or any other person, to vote or to refrain from voting a such person or any other person having voted or refrained from voting at such election and this behavior is known as ‘treating’ and is illegal.Fulford said, “I really believe to instruct candidates not to host events of this nature is akin to denying the children of our country the much needed help that they look forward to year round. Our children cannot vote. We want to demonstrate our goodwill to our young people and provide them access to and experience of the political process from an early age.”The attorney at law expressed some other, more striking thoughts on this rule in the ordinance.Fulford says Sharlene Robinson, leader of the People’s Democratic Movement should be blamed for the mess his cancellation has created.“The truth is that this law was pushed not only by the British. We must lay the blame of this law at the feet where it belongs: The Hon. Sharlene Cartwright – and the British – during her term in the Interim administration, they together pushed for these laws.”Mark Fulford also calls the standard established firmly in 2012, more repression by the British.Nonetheless, the Elections Supervisor says it is not new, but that ‘treating’ has been illegal for many years, although in past campaigning leading up to general elections some people have chosen to ignore it, and such behavior he said is no longer being ignored. It was clearly explained in a media release that anyone found ‘treating’ and is the candidate or associated with a candidate will face a criminal investigation as it will be reported to Police. Lewis said the rule keeps the playing field leveled between those offering to serve in one of 15 seats in Parliament.Fulford, who in August hosted a workshop for North and Middle Caicos business owners featuring Premier, Finance Minister, Border Control Minister and other government leaders on a panel, believes the rule is archaic.
