Dr Pollard Accredited High Commissioner to Bangladesh

President of People’s Republic of Bangladesh, Md. Abdul Hamid and Dr David Goldwin PollardOn Thursday, July 5, 2018,  Dr David Goldwin Pollard presented his Letter of Credence before President of People’s Republic of Bangladesh, Md. Abdul Hamid and was accredited High Commissioner of the Co-operative Republic of Guyana to the People’s Republic of Bangladesh. High Commissioner Pollard is concurrently accredited to India, Indonesia and Sri Lanka. During his visit to Dhaka, he also met with Director General of the America’s Division, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Bangladesh, Ms Ferdousi Shahriar, to discuss the enhancement of bilateral relations between the two countries and possible areas of mutual cooperation.  Both sides alluded to the value of high-level visits between the two Governments as a way of moving both diplomatic and economic relations forward. According to Guyana’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Cooperation between the two countries often occurs at the multilateral level through organizations such as the United Nations (UN), the Non-Aligned Movement, the Commonwealth of Nations, and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC). Guyana and Bangladesh have collaborated within the UN on a range of issues, particularly in relation to development, migration, climate change, Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and UN Reform.  Dr Pollard has a background in physics and upon obtaining a PhD in Theoretical Physics from the Imperial College London, he founded the Solar Energy Laboratory while serving as a lead researcher for Guyana’s Institute of Applied Science and Technology. The High Commissioner later went on to work for one of the world’s leading oil and gas firms. High Commissioner Pollard also has an extensive background in quantitative research, trade and fund management. Guyana and Bangladesh established diplomatic relations on March 24, 1972.
